Apella offers a unique solution for collaborative group decision making. Many new co-operatives founded in the spirit of the "social protest" aim to give the people more control of how their services are run. These co-operatives, along with other youth organizations, student councils, and comities face a challenge of making democratic group decisions. We build a community oriented online tool designed to support the entire decision making process, from initiating a discussion to reaching a decision.
We found that only 30% of co-operative members are involved in the decision making process and co-operatives are keen to raise their group's involvement. Apella gives the participants the ability to quickly understand and take part in the current discussion and allows the members to do so on their own time. Using Apella we hope to empower communities and help them achieve their goals.
